![]() Greetings and felicitations, everyone, and welcome to my website! For those of you who don't know me, my name is Gamin Davis and I have been a Star Trek:TOS fan since first starting to watch the show in reruns back in the early 70s. I've watched all incarnations of the show on TV and the movies up through Generations, but none of them--including Voyager, which I also enjoy sometimes--have captured my imagination like the original Star Trek series and the animated series that briefly followed it. Recalling that I had seen it at 9 years old when it was still in production and my parents watched it and not (at that time) been interested or really known what it was, I began watching it seriously in the afternoons when I was in Junior High School. I was hooked with "Amok Time", still my favorite episode, instantly identified with the character of Spock--the outcast hybrid who found friendship and acceptance outside his homeworld--and never looked back. In the late 70s, I discovered organized fandom, and through a Leonard Nimoy fan club, I learned about things called fanzines. By the end of 1981, after I'd graduated from college and gotten my B.A. in English, I'd had my first story published in a New Zealand club zine called Nome. I've been writing TOS fan-fiction ever since, focusing mainly on Spock and Kirk's friendship and Spock's relationship with Christine Chapel (heavy emphasis on hurt/comfort), and I began posting some of the early stories to the Internet upon joining ASC (alt.startrek.creative) in '99. Over the last few years, I have started my own mostly-Star Trek-fan-fiction-related discussion groups on Yahoo--as of this writing, four of them. KirkSpockFriendsForever is focused on Kirk and Spock (and William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy) and their friendship--no slash or other content about PG13 allowed. SpockChristineRomance is devoted to the concept of a relationship between Spock and Christine, anything from early friendship to romance and marriage--again, no content over PG13 (there are already adult S/Ch groups out there). Then there's my newest group, called Vulcans1stFamily, which is for Spock and his family (Sarek and Amanda, specifically). I also have a zine-oriented group, TrekZinesCentral, for those interested in Star Trek fanzines, whether you're involved with them now or just wanting to learn about them. Lastly, there is my Iraq war/troops support group, which happens to be so far composed almost entirely of Star Trek fans--UnitedForIraqiFreedom. (If you aren't interested in anything but anti-Bush flames or discussion criticizing Iraq policy, don't go near this one.) You should be able to join any of these via the links here. The stories and other creative works you see here are mostly older works from previously-published zines, or else early, pre-publication versions of newer ones (something calculated to prevent people from being able to claim that they have no reason to buy the zines that the stories later appear in <g>). You'll also find ordering information for my zines, most of which are still in print, and I expect the listing to be updated as new zines come out. You'll find that the stories here all fall into one of three categories--Kirk and Spock friendship, Spock/Christine or Spock's childhood--since I assume the principle relationships in Spock's life are with Kirk (and McCoy, by extension), Christine, and his parents (I love to include Sarek and Amanda whenever I can). I hope you find something on the site to enjoy, and be sure to E-mail me or sign the guestbook before you leave. |
The Obligatory
Disclaimer:
For lo, the Deity Paramount doth own these characters; I do but frolic
briefly with them in their playground.
Kirk and Spock: The Straight Story
an essay by Gamin Davis
My interpretation of the
Kirk and Spock friendship and why I don't believe it has any sexual aspects,
including an episode-by-episode / movie-by-movie account of the evolution of
their relationship.
Spock's First
Christmas
(pre-TOS; S, Sa, Am, K, Mc, Ch; [G]
for general sappiness)
Spock reflects on the one Christmas his
mother wasn't able to spend on Earth, and how he and Sarek collaborated on a
special Christmas present to cheer her up.
Once and Future
Friend
(pre-TOS; S, Sa, Am; angst; rated [G]
for occasional toxic cuteness)
Spock's only childhood visit to see
some of his Human relatives results in the beginnings of a friendship with his
cousin, setting a possible precedent for his friendship with Kirk.
For Duty's Sake
(pre-TOS; K&S, Sa, Am, T'Pring;
angst; [PG])
As appearing in the zine More Future
Visions.
Spock's post-"Amok Time" reflections on his childhood, as told
to Kirk, specifically on his relationship with T'Pring and a bonding neither of
them really wanted.
Against Tradition
For Trilly
(pre-TOS; S, Sa, Am; angst;
[G])
A story about Spock's decision to join Starfleet, his clash
with Sarek over it, and the beginnings of their long-running feud. (Warning:
this story contains a necessarily harsh portrayal of Sarek--considering the
subject matter, I couldn't find any way around that.)
The Best Christmas Present
Early
version
(pre-TOS; K&S; h/c; [G])
The story of Spock's
first-ever Christmas among Humans, and how he deals with spending it alone at
Starfleet Academy--with some unexpected help from his room-mate and would-be
friend, a Human named James T. Kirk.
The Loneliness of Command
Early version
(TOS; K&S; angst,
h/c; [G])
Missing scenes from "The Galileo Seven" in which Spock,
while recovering from his leg injury, tries--with Kirk's help--to deal with his
feelings of shame over losing the lives of two men on the Murasaki 312 mission,
his first away mission command.
Land of Silver Birds
(TOS; K&S; angst,
h/c; [G])
Sequel to "City on the Edge of Forever", based on the original Ellison ending, wherein Kirk reluctantly accepts Spock's offer to take him back to Vulcan on leave; in addition to helping Kirk overcome his grief over Edith Keeler, Spock must deal with his own feelings of guilt--and the mental bond that's beginning to form between them.
Darkness
Early version
(TOS; K&S, Mc; angst, h/c;
[G])
A short back story to the episode "Operation: Annihilate!",
covering how Spock dealt with his period of blindness and how Kirk dealt with
his nephew, Peter, and the loss of his brother, Sam.
Memories Born of Fire
(TOS; K&S, S/Ch, Mc; angst, h/c)
Previously
published in my zine Something to Remember, nominated for a Fan-Q
award.
An "Amok Time" sequel in
which Spock's attempts to deal with his shame and fear after nearly killing Kirk
force him to face the unsettling depths of his feelings of friendship for
Kirk--especially after the Captain's life is again endangered on Altair
VI.
Kirk's Promise
(TOS; K&S; mild
h/c; [PG13] for adult themes)
After "Amok Time",
Kirk and Spock have a private talk, and Spock makes an unexpected
request...
First Duties
Early
version
(TOS; K&S, Sa, Am; angst, h/c;
[G])
A "Journey
to Babel" sequel that focuses on the real reasons that Kirk and McCoy had to
trick Spock into being Sarek's blood donor, and ramifications it has for Spock's
relationship with his parents--especially Sarek--once they find out.
An Unexpected Illness
Early
version
(TOS; K&S, Mc; h/c; [PG] for explicit descriptions
of some superficial disease symptoms)
Sequel to "The Immunity
Syndrome" in which Spock is found to have contracted an alien disease from the
giant ameba. Kirk and McCoy spend their leave on Starbase 6 caring for Spock and
trying to find a cure.
Heroes
Early version
(TOS;
K&S, Surak; angst; [G])
Missing scenes from "The Savage Curtain"
in which Spock discovers that his "image of Surak" is not exactly as he
expected it to be, and from the episode, when Kirk helps him understand
why.
Kolinahr: The
Parting
(TOS; K&S&Mc, Sa, Am, Ch; angst, h/c;
[G])
A story focusing on the internal conflict that drove Spock
back to Vulcan at the end of the first 5-year mission to try to attain Kolinahr,
and how Kirk and McCoy deal with his decision.
Final Victory
(AU,
post-ST:TMP; K&S, Ch, Mc, Sa, Am; angst, h/c, DEATH; [PG])
This
is my first piece of fan fiction. This rewritten/re-edited version appeared in
Visions of Future Past.
The story of how Kirk and McCoy help a
still-unbonded Spock (and themselves) face his death in pon farr, then try to
cope with his loss.
The Star: Circles of
Light
Early
version
(post-ST:TMP; K&S, Mc, Ch; angst, h/c;
[G])
Shortly before the first Christmas, after the V'ger mission,
McCoy faces a seemingly impossible choice: give a presentation on Vulcan mating
rituals for the annual Federation Medical Conference or risk his career. When
Kirk, as a result, is forced to choose between helping him or keeping his
years-old, but so far unbroken promise to Spock not to dicuss details of the pon
farr with anyone, his choice leads to a loss of Spock's trust and the
near-destruction of their friendship ( and more) as Christmas approaches. Then a
mysterious star heralds a Christmas miracle that draws the two of them back
together.
A Light in the Darkness
(post-ST:TMP;
K&S&Mc, Ch; h/c; [G])
As appearing in More Future
Visions.
Spock is blinded in an accident on the Bridge and must face the
possibility of leaving behind his home and his friends on the Enterprise
forever.
Tashirya
(post-ST:TMP; K&S&f, Ch, Mc; angst, h/c; [PG] for graphic
mind-rape)
Previously published in More Future
Visions.
Spock is kidnapped by Kor to be used as a test-subject for a
new type of mind-sifter intended to be effective on Vulcans and others with
mental shielding ability. Spock becomes involved with the
half-Human/half-Romulan creator of the new mind-sifter--who also happens to be
the daughter of the Romulan Kirk once defeated in battle ("Balance of
Terror").
Angels: Home for Christmas
Early version
(post-ST:TMP; K&S, S/Ch, Mc,
assorted Human relatives of Spock; h/c; [G])
Two years after the
V'ger mission, the crew of the Enterprise--including Kirk, Spock, McCoy and
Christine Chapel--get the chance to spend Christmas on Earth with their
families. After being rejected by his Human relatives, Spock accepts an
invitation to join Kirk and Christine in Iowa where they are sharing an
old-fashioned Christmas with Kirk's mother; Spock arrives feeling depressed and
isolated, and when he gets lost in a blizzard, a vision of an angel shows him
how truly fortunate he is.
Our Dearest Blood
(AU, post STIII; K&S, Mc, Sa, Am; h/c; [G])
As
published in the zine Visions of Futures Past.
A STIII sequel
written as an alternative to STIV, focusing on the early days of Spock's
recovery after the fal-tor-pan ceremony and Kirk's efforts to help
him.
Time of Miracles
Early
version
(post-STIV;
K&S&M, Ch; [G])
Kirk is injured during the Enterprise-A's shakedown cruise; Spock and
McCoy face Christmas with him in a coma at a starbase hospital and the two of
them having to spend the holiday together, worrying about Kirk and learning to
get along with each other.
A Last Embrace
Early
version
(TOS; S/Ch, K&S; angst,
h/c; [PG])
A few missing scenes from "Amok Time", falling between
Spock's request that Christine make him plomik soup and his going up to the
Bridge with Kirk and McCoy upon arrival at Vulcan, mainly dealing with how
Christine reacts to her discovery that Spock already has a wife (as well as more
private talks between Spock and Kirk as the latter tries to help Spock cope with
the pon farr).
A Time to Heal
(TOS; S/Ch, K, Mc, U; h/c; [PG13])
This story was
originally published in the Trek anthology More Future Visions.
A
sequel to "Return to Tomorrow" dealing with something that happened between
Henoch and Christine, and how Spock helps her begin to recover from
it.
Zarabeth's Legacy
(TOS, possible A/U, S/Ch,
K&S, Mc; angst, h/c [PG])
A slightly AU sequel to “All
Our Yesterdays” that discards the idea of Spock “reverting to the ways of his
ancestors” in favor of another explanation for his behavior in Sarpeidon’s past,
focusing on the ramifications of the incident for his relationship with
Christine Chapel.
A Rose Amongst the
Ashes
(AU, post-ST:TMP; S/Ch, K&S, Mc; angst,
h/c; [PG])
From Visions of Futures Past.
On a mission to locate a missing exploration team on a hostile planet, Kirk is killed;
afterwards, Spock slowly begins to turn to
McCoy and Christine Chapel for help in
dealing with his grief over Kirk's death.
Something to Remember
(post-ST:TMP; S/Ch, K&S, Mc, Sa, Am; angst, h/c;
[PG13])
A post-ST:TMP pon farr story in
which Spock chooses Christine Chapel as his bond-mate and tries to gain the
approval of Sarek and T’Pau so they can be married on
Vulcan.
